Getting started

By far the best way to get started is to join a class. Not only will you learn to ski or board, but you learn about suitable resorts, lift systems and piste maps. All this information is there for the asking. (You may have a friend who offers to teach you but being taught by an unqualified instructor will generally result in inappropriate techniques and habits.)

If you want to have a look round and a chat, you are welcome to visit the slope during opening times and talk to us in person, but please be aware that, at class change over times, our volunteer lodge staff may be rather busy so you may have to bear with them for a while!

Membership is not required for ski classes but, as there is a reduction for members, it is beneficial to become a member if you are serious about learning to ski. Also, membership does allow you to use the slope for practice during recreational sessions. We are no longer able to allow non-members to use the slope in any recreational or freestyle session, due to insurance restrictions.

We have a comprehensive range of top quality equipment for you to hire. All you will need to bring to start with is a good pair of gloves to protect your hands. You will also need to keep arms and legs covered. (Loose fitting clothing is good). As the slope is regularly lubricated with water, waterproof over trousers and jacket are useful .

Give it a try...it's fun!
